Abstract: This is joint work with Jérémy Blanc (University of Basel). In this talk, we consider the group Aut(ℂ2, Γ) of polynomial automorphisms of the affine plane ℂ2 that preserve a given algebraic curve Γ in ℂ2. If this curve is a bunch of parallel lines, then the group Aut(ℂ2, Γ) is infinite dimensional. We give a sketch of the proof, why this is the only possibility for Γ where such a phenomenon happens. The techniques are based on the theory of birational transformations of the projective plane and Hirzebruch surfaces. If time permits, we will discus in more detail the structure of Aut(ℂ2, Γ).
