Abstract: The talk is divided into three parts: first, a brief account of Chevalley groups and the construction of finite groups of Lie type (e.g. SLn(𝔽p)) will be given. The second part is a brief (and self-contained) description of the representation theory of the finite Heisenberg groups (Stone-von Neumann Theorem). Finally in the last part, these two will be put together to provide lower bounds on the dimension of faithful complex representations of groups G(R), where G is Chevalley group and R a finite commutative ring.
