Abstract: During the course of this talk, we shall discuss important tools necessary for the understanding of the construction highest-weight modules. That is, we need to understand the notions of the enveloping algebra, Cartan subalgebras, root systems, and weights of a Lie algebra. We shall focus on the special linear Lie algebra sl_n(𝔽), where 𝔽 is either ℝ or ℂ.
