"A tour through multiple time scale dynamics"

Date: Mon, September 8, 2014
Time: 17:15
Place: Research II Lecture Hall

Abstract: In this talk I shall give an overview of multiple time scale systems accessible to a broad audience. I am going to focus on low-dimensional geometric properties of fast-slow ordinary differential equations, particularly on the loss of the validity of linearization techniques. As applications, we shall discuss the analysis of oscillations in two chemical systems, including the resolution of a long-standing problem in the analysis of the Olsen model first posed in 1979; this last part is joint work with Peter Szmolyan from TU Vienna.
