"Spectral theory of one dimensional quasicrystals"

Date: Mon, November 9, 2015
Time: 17:15
Place: Research II Lecture Hall

Abstract: Quasicrystals provide a new form of matter based on long range aperiodic order. In the mathematical investigation subshift dynamical systems play a key role. The treatment of corresponding quantum mechanical models in one-dimension yields Schroedinger operators associated to subshifts. Their spectral theory has attracted quite some attention. We give an introduction into this topic.

The colloquium is preceded by tea from 16:45 in the Resnikoff Mathematics Common Room, Research I, 127.
