Abstract: We will consider an algebra of multidimensional periodic operators with defects, explicit formulas for inverse operators, a direct calculation of spectra. We apply these results to a problem of wave propagation in periodic media with defects. We discuss a direct problem (how amplituudes of waves depend on the defects), and an inverse problem (how to recover the defect properties from the information about reflected waves).
