Abstract: Transport (convection, advection) schemes is a well studied area of numerical analysis, and is a necessary element of numerical models of the atmosphere and ocean. However, finite-volume algorithms that are simultaneously accurate and numerically efficient on unstructured meshes present a challenge and are a subject of active research. I will review two relatively inexpensive approaches based on reconstructions and discuss a new approach that is inspired by continuous linear finite elements.
