Abstract: This talk covers recent advances in the simulation of deformable bodies - a basis technology for biomedical computing. Based on the implicit finite element method a multigrid approach for the efficient numerical simulation of elastic materials is presented. The approach enables realistic and numerically stable simulation of bodies that are described by tetrahedral or hexahedral grids. Corotated finite elements are used to efficiently handle geometric non-linearities. Related topics such as topological changes (cutting) are briefly discussed.
