Abstract: There were numerous innovations in the 19th century that contributed to the development of what we might call complex geometry today. In this talk we will discuss a number of those innovations and how they are connected. These innovations occur in the areas of projective geometry, function theory, Riemann surfaces and algebraic geometry, to mention several examples.
