Abstract: I will first present the elasticity problem in general terms, together with the physical quantities involved. Then I will explain the relation to physical laws, and how these quantities are approximated in the PDE setting, with discussion on (dis)advantages of each of the three popular methods, and possibly some visual results. Finally, if time permits, I will present some historical notes on motivation and development of these methods.
