Abstract: This talk will be a modest extension of Thurston's topological characterization of rational maps to cosine maps. Most of the groundwork on the geometry of finite type Riemann surfaces is already developed in the Hubbard, Schleicher, Shishikura paper that extends Thurston theory to the exponential map. The main issue in this new case is working around the existence of critical points present in the case of the cosine family.
