"On the one dimensional Keller-Rubinow model for Liesegang rings"

Abstract: Liesegang rings are an astonishing phenomenon not only for the viewer's eyes but also for mathematicians. Liesegang rings are chemical systems undergoing a precipitation reaction, under certain conditions of concentration and in the absence of convection. During the process one can see the insoluble rings appearing and those satisfy some strikingly simple empirical laws. The modelling of this phenomenon has gone through several important theories, one simplification of those is the Keller-Rubinow model in the fast reaction limit studied by D. Hilhorst, R. van der Hout, M. Mimura and I. Ohnishi. In my presentation I will present some results extending their theory and improving some of their theorems.
