Abstract: We will construct the Grassmannians and their Schubert cycles, then describe the Schubert calculus, an important computational tool in complex geometry. If time permits, we will also describe the Plucker embedding of a Grassmannian in projective space, as an illustration of general theorems on compact complex manifolds.
