Abstract: I will give a short progress report on the development of kinetic energy backscatter in the finite volume model FESOM2. I will highlight some of the difficulties I experienced and some of the adjustments I had to make in order to get a numerically stable implementation. First results will be presented showing the effect of the backscatter. Possible future improvements and adjustments to the scheme will be discussed.
