International Mathematics Competition
The International Mathematics Competition for
University Students (IMC) is the most widely known international
mathematics contest at the university level, viewed as a
continuation of the International Mathematics Olympiad for high
school students.
Each year students completing their first,
second, third or fourth year of university compete in solving
problems from the fields of algebra, analysis and combinatorics in
two five-hour sessions. Up to now, students from over 30 countries
and 100 universities have taken part in the competition.
Since 2003, Jacobs University Bremen
participated at every edition of the IMC and is now preparing the
team for the 14th IMC taking place in August this year in
Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria. Every year, Jacobs University Bremen sends
to the IMC a team consisting of 6 or 7 of the best mathematics
students in the university, led by an experienced professor from
our mathematics faculty.
In 2005, the first time the IMC organizers
published a university prize table, Jacobs University Bremen, with
two second prizes, three third prizes and one honorable mention was
among the top 30 universities.
Beginning with 2006, Jacobs University Bremen is
one of the sponsors of the competition.
