Prashant's words about his stay here at Jacobs University:
" I am currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Computational Finance. The
degree will prepare me for a future career in derivatives
structuring, trading and research, portfolio management and risk management.
I am interested in pursuing a career on the trading floor of an investment
bank. This summer, I will be interning with Deutsche Bank in their Global
Markets division in New York City.
I have benefited hugely from spending my three years at Jacobs University.
The opportunity to interact closely with people from numerous countries and
cultures has taught me to respect and deal with a variety of people. Despite
obtaining a degree in mathematics, my experiences outside the classroom have
taught me the value of interpersonal and management skills.
The three year undergraduate education at Jacobs University is a compressed version of a
standard four year degree at US universities. The program in mathematics is
certainly challenging and it taught me to value (very) hard work and
discipline. I learnt to work in high stress situations with multiple
assignments and extra-curricular acitvites on hand - a valuable skill on a
trading floor.
I believe that my undergraduate education in mathematics gave me the chance
to learn with exceedingly smart classmates and from brilliant professors.
The firm mathematical foundations and my transdisciplinary education in
computer science, economics and management gained through my studies at Jacobs University
have provided me with excellent footing to approach problems in quantitative
finance and tackle problems faced on a trading floor which involve
implementing a mathematically complex financial solution on a computer while
always being well aware of the economic and
financial intuition behind the product.
On a more personal note, the international campus atmosphere at Jacobs University has
given me to chance to develop relationships with people from all across the
globe. It is hard to imagine a representation of 80 countries by 800
students. But this is exactly what has been achieved at Jacobs University. "
